Creating a session

In VoiceQSO, every contact you log lives inside a session, a single operating period such as a contest, a POTA/SOTA activation, or an evening at the radio. You create a session first, then log QSOs into it.

Create a session

  1. Open the Sessions tab and tap the + button.
  2. On the New Session screen, fill in the details:
    • Session Name (required): for example, SOTA W6/CT-001.
    • Callsign (required): the callsign you're operating as.
    • QTH (optional): your location or grid locator.
  3. Pick a Category: SOTA, POTA, IOTA, Contest, Field Day, Regular, or Custom.
  4. Add any other details you want. Band, Mode, Frequency, and Notes are all optional and can be changed later.
  5. Tap Create Session.

Offline with no signal? The button reads Create Session (Offline) and your session is created locally on your phone. When you're back in coverage, tap Sync Now to upload it. See Working offline.

POTA and SOTA references

If you pick the POTA or SOTA category, a reference field appears:

  • POTA: enter a reference like US-0014, or tap Find nearby park to locate one near you.
  • SOTA: enter a reference like W6/CT-001, or tap Find nearby summit.

The resolved park or summit name shows under the field, and the reference is carried onto every QSO you log in that session.

Managing sessions

The Sessions tab lists everything you've logged, with a search box at the top. Each session card shows its callsign, category, and QSO and recording counts, with a colored strip marking its status.

The session lifecycle

  • Sessions are active from the moment you create them, and a session has to be active to record into it. They stay active until you remove them, so you can come back days later and keep logging into the same one.
  • To remove a session, swipe its card on your phone and confirm, or use ⋮ menu › Delete Session in the web app. Deleted sessions disappear from your lists everywhere, and any public share links to them stop working.

Next, head to Logging QSOs.
